Francesca Heart is the music project of Italian artist and researcher Francesca Mariano. She trained with post-modern dance pioneer Anna Halprin, who influenced her in integrating choreography, myth and nature in an ever-evolving process of discovery and transformation.
Her artistic journey embraces water-related feminism, exploring the connections between acoustic mythology and landscape dance. She approaches music with curiosity to tap into the fountain of the imagination, often exploring archaeology of the Mediterranean through a sci-fi gaze, to unearth and evoke adventurous journeys “while feeling eternally, peacefully still” (Pitchfork).
She has performed and exhibited in international venues and institutions, including The Peggy Guggenheim Collection, Rewire Festival, Museo Madre, Fondazione Sozzan, de Young Memorial Museum, UCSBì, CTM Festival, the Swiss Institute, East Contemporary, Maison Margiela.
Her latest album, Bird Bath, was released in 2024 on experimental LA based Leaving Records.
Alongside her personal projects, she works on commissioned choreography and music scores for film, fashion, theatre and documentaries.
She is part of the 2023/24 Shape+ artist platform for innovative music in Europe and has been selected for Room to Bloom (2020-2023), a feminist platform for ecological and postcolonial narratives of Europe.
